Formed in Los Angeles in 1953, then taken over by manager Buck Ram , the group enjoyed rapid success and spanned five decades. Buck Ram runs the Platters company and weathers soloist changes and musical fads, but the Platters will be remembered as the group that dominated the 1950s.
