Drummer Gene Krupa , who made himself known in Benny Goodman 's bands by participating in the rich hours of the clarinetist, crowned King of Swing , led his own big band from 1938, an excellent group that he led with great swing. His long drum solos, his sense of spectacle, and some great soloists, including trumpeter Roy Eldridge and singer Anita O'Day , left a vivid memory of this endearing character and numerous quality phonographic traces.
