Film noir is the heir of the noir series detective novel and the gangster film . From the beginning of the 1920s, Dashiell Hammett created a new narrative of the investigation, more rhythmic, more syncopated, denser and more enigmatic. Cinema takes over from the detective story and from then on, cinema and the noir novel enrich each other with their narration techniques: dark atmosphere , contrasting black and white image, eroticism , deconstruction of the times of the story, voice-over , lively and brief dialogue .

The genre responds to the taste of the public, fascinated by the sulphurous worlds, luxury, sex, violence and eroticism of gangster women. Film noir is a success because it is a compendium of unconfessed desires.
