The biography of Erroll Garner by Claude Carrière and Christian Bonnet , illustrated by Michel Conversin and accompanied by 2 compact discs.
Born in 1921, Erroll Garner simply reinvented the piano, without having learned the rules. A self-taught genius, he had created an absolutely personal style, of biblical theoretical simplicity but of pyramidal effectiveness: a left hand which places a very full chord on each beat, a right hand which develops, with an iota of delay, singing sentences and clear as day. His massive “swing” , his humor, his rich harmonies, had won over the general public. He thus remained, until his death in 1977, a great popular artist. In fact, he still is, through his records as fresh as the first day.
