Singer-guitarist Patton , born in the heart of Mississippi in the 1880s, is one of the oldest known blues men. Nicknamed the " Founder of Delta Blues ", he laid the foundations for new music and left his mark on it. Without him, we would not have known Son House , Big Joe Williams , Robert Johnson ... any more than Muddy Waters , Howlin'Wollf or John Lee Hooker who transposed his harsh and powerful blues and made it known everywhere.
Died in 1934, Patton constituted the first stone of a musical edifice from which all the popular expressions of the 20th century drew. You can't really know the blues if you haven't heard Charley Patton.
